About Us
Our preschool
We are a home-based preschool in Culver City, California, where a small group of mixed-age preschoolers will develop life-long relationships and learn together as a community.
This environment and personalized curriculum is designed to meet the individual needs of each child and develop proficiency in the Spanish language, all while building foundations in art, science and math.
Our program was inspired by Friedrich Fröebel, the founder of the first Kindergarten. At Mi Jardin, we believe in the importance of creating a harmonious environment in which children can grow; and the value of play as a foundation for learning and development.
About me
I was born in Colombia, and moved to Boston at the age of fifteen. My love for teaching and education was ignited during my undergraduate & graduate college years at Wheelock College in Boston, MA. As a Boston Public School Teacher, I worked with children from all over the world, helping them develop the learning blocks needed to succeed.
In 2013, my family relocated to Southern California. Here, I continued to fuel my passion of education as a substitute teacher in Culver City's elementary schools, focusing primarily on Spanish language immersion. I am also raising two bilingual children of my own.
Our Philosophy
Art
Research shows that participating in art-based activities helps children develop language, mathematics , science and social skills, while also helping to stimulate brain cell development. At Mi Jardin, we incorporate art-based activities that help children express their understandings of their surroundings, their thoughts and their feelings. We believe children are born artists, and we support their creative endeavors through self-directed and guided exploration techniques.
Language
Young children are natural language learners. With very little effort, they can process and adopt new forms of communication and seamlessly acquire native pronunciation. Learning a new language also helps children with their problem-solving abilities, enhanced memory and improved capacity for abstract thinking. At Mi Jardin, we have native Spanish speakers engage with your child using stories, songs and play to help them in their journey of discovery of a new language.
Play
Play is our brain's favorite way of learning . We believe that child-led and guided play have a fundamental role in your child's cognitive development. At Mi Jardin, we use specialized techniques to help your child's problem-solving ability; their ability to understand and use mathematical concepts; learn about science; and integrate new vocabulary into their communications.
